Welcome, and thank you for considering me as your rheumatologist!
I specialize in complex rheumatology consultations and second opinions, with more than a decade of experience in clinical care and medical education. Every treatment recommendation I make is guided solely by what I believe is best for you.
I was born in Michigan and raised in Northern California. My father was an OB/GYN and my mother is a dentist. They instilled in me and my three siblings a deep respect for empathy in healthcare. All of us followed their example into patient care—my brother is a cardiologist, my sister is a dentist, and my younger sister is an ICU nurse.
After earning a biology degree at UCLA , I went to medical school at Midwestern University, where I met my wife (Dr. Phuong Nguyen) and graduated with honors. I began my residency training in Anesthesiology at UT Southwestern in Dallas, but soon realized my true passion was Internal Medicine and the management of complex disease. I completed my residency in Internal Medicine at Methodist Dallas Medical Center, where I served as Chief Resident. I then returned to Arizona for fellowship training in Rheumatology at the University of Arizona, where I was also honored to serve as Chief Fellow.
I am double board-certified in Rheumatology and Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine, and have taught joint aspiration and injection techniques at the American College of Physicians national meetings. Teaching is one of my passions, and I currently serve as Clinical Assistant Professor at three Phoenix-area medical schools: the University of Arizona College of Medicine–Phoenix, Creighton University School of Medicine, and my alma mater, Midwestern University.
I strive to embody the three “A’s” in medicine: Ability, Availability, and Affability—skill in care, being there when you need me, and treating you with warmth. This approach has led to my recognition as a Phoenix Magazine “Top Doctor” in Rheumatology. I also serve as team rheumatologist for the Cincinnati Reds during their Arizona activities, helping professional athletes return to peak performance.
In addition, I am proud to serve as a Trustee of the Arizona Osteopathic Medical Association, where I advocate for patients’ access to the treatments they need. Above all, I take pride in providing care guided by integrity, compassion, and excellence.
